Branca Lopes de Alcântara Bilhar ( * 1886 – Rio de Janeiro; † 22. Dezember 1928) war eine brasilianische Pianistin und Komponistin.

Leben

Branca Lopes de Alcântara Bilhar wurde 1886 in Rio de Janeiro und war die Nichte des Gitarristen und Komponisten Sátiro Bilhar. Seit ihrem achten Lebensjahr spielte sie Geige und Klavier. Im Jahr 1911, im Alter von 14 Jahren, verlor Branca ihre Eltern und wurde zum Waisenkind. Sie zog nach Rio de Janeiro, um bei ihrer Tante Anna Bilhar zu leben.
Um 1911 trat sie in das Instituto Nacional de Música do Rio de Janeiro ein und machte ihren Abschluss mit Auszeichnung in der Klavierklasse von Godofredo Leão Veloso. Am Institut hatte sie Unterricht bei Barrozo Neto und Luciano Gallet.
Zusammen mit ihrer Schwester Ana Bilhar gründete sie das Colégio Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, das zunächst in Guaramiranga und später in Fortaleza wiedereröffnet wurde.
Sie ist als Solopianistin und in Kammermusikgruppen aufgetreten. Sie übernahm eine Lehrtätigkeit und hatte unter ihren Schülern Eunice Katunda.

Life

Branca Lopes de Alcântara Bilhar was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1886 and was the niece of the guitarist and composer Sátiro Bilhar. She played the violin and piano from the age of eight. In 1911, at the age of 14, Branca lost her parents and became an orphan. She moved to Rio de Janeiro to live with her aunt Anna Bilhar.
Around 1911, she entered the Instituto Nacional de Música do Rio de Janeiro and graduated with honours from Godofredo Leão Veloso’s piano class. At the institute she had lessons with Barrozo Neto and Luciano Gallet.
Together with her sister Ana Bilhar, she founded the Colégio Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, which was first reopened in Guaramiranga and later in Fortaleza.
She has performed as a solo pianist and in chamber music groups. She took on a teaching role and had Eunice Katunda among her students.
