Britta Byströmaus neue Musik

Britta Byström (* 14. März 1977 in Sundsvall, Schweden) ist eine schwedische Komponistin.

Leben

Die im schwedischen Sundsvall geborene Britta Byström wuchs nicht in einer musikalischen Familie auf, sondern begann sich im Alter von 10 Jahren für Musik zu interessieren, als sie anfing, Trompete zu spielen. Nachdem sie Melodien für die Trompete geschrieben hatte, begann sie, für ein Orchester zu komponieren, das aus ihren Jugendfreunden bestand. Als sie 16 Jahre alt war, gewann sie einen Wettbewerb mit dem Umeå Symphony Orchestra.

1995 wurde sie zum Kompositionsstudium an der Königlichen Schwedischen Musikhochschule bei Pär Lindgren und Bent Sørensen zugelassen, das sie 2001 abschloss. Seitdem hat sie mehr als 100 Werke komponiert, von denen einige vom BBC Symphony Orchestra, dem Gürzenich-Orchester und dem Danish National Symphony Orchestra aufgeführt wurden. Einige ihrer Kompositionen sind direkt für Solisten wie Radovan Vlatkovic, Malin Broman, Rick Stotijn und Janine Jansen geschrieben worden.

Mehrere von Byströms Werken haben besondere Aufmerksamkeit erregt. Der Vogel der Nacht” wurde von Gustav Mahlers dritter Symphonie inspiriert. Es wurde 2010 vom Schwedischen Rundfunkorchester uraufgeführt. Die Tondichtung Picnic at Hanging Rock, die Byström als “Musik des Verschwindens” beschreibt, wurde 2012 mit dem Christ-Johnson-Preis ausgezeichnet, während A Walk After Dark, ein Bratschenkonzert, bei der Brandenburger Biennale 2014 den Da-capo-Preis erhielt. Im Jahr 2016 komponierte sie Many, Yet One für das Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Es wurde im Januar 2018 uraufgeführt. Parallel Universes, ein Orchesterwerk, das von den Theorien des Kosmologen Max Tegmark inspiriert ist, wurde von der BBC in Auftrag gegeben, um das 150-jährige Bestehen der Royal Albert Hall 2021 zu feiern, und wurde vom BBC Philharmonic Orchestra unter der Leitung von John Storgårds bei den BBC Proms 2021 uraufgeführt.

Britta Byströms Musik ist seit 2010 bei der Edition Wilhelm Hansen erschienen. Seit 2016 ist sie Mitglied der Königlich Schwedischen Akademie für Musik.

Life

Born in Sundsvall, Sweden, Britta Byström was not raised in a musical family but became interested in music at the age of 10 when she began to play the trumpet. After writing tunes for the trumpet, she started to compose for an orchestra made up of her teenage friends. By the time she was 16, she had won a competition with the Umeå Symphony Orchestra.

She was admitted to study composition at the Royal Swedish College of Music in 1995, under Pär Lindgren and Bent Sørensen, graduating in 2001. She has since composed more than 100 works, some of which have been performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Gürzenich orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Some of her compositions have been written directly for soloists such as Radovan Vlatkovic, Malin Broman, Rick Stotijn and Janine Jansen.

Several of Byström’s works have attracted particular attention. Der Vogel der Nacht (The Bird of the Night) was inspired by Gustav Mahler’s Third Symphony. It was first performed by the Swedish Radio Orchestra in 2010. The tone poem Picnic at Hanging Rock, described by Byström as “music with disappearance”, received the Christ Johnson prize in 2012, while A Walk After Dark, a viola concerto, earned the Da-capo award at the 2014 Brandenburger Biennale. In 2016, she composed Many, Yet One for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. It was given its world premiere in January 2018. Parallel Universes, an orchestral work inspired by the cosmologist Max Tegmark’s theories, was commissioned by BBC to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Albert Hall 2021 and was first performed by BBC Philharmonic, conductor John Storgårds at the BBC Proms 2021.

Britta Byström’s music is since 2010 published by Edition Wilhelm Hansen. Since 2016, she is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
