Bushra El-Turk (* 1982 in London) ist eine englische Komponistin.

Leben

Bushra El-Turk wurde als Tochter libanesischer Eltern, die vor dem Bürgerkrieg geflohen sind, in London geboren und ist dort aufgewachsen. Ihre Eltern ermutigten sie in der Schule ein Musikinstrument zu lernen. Alles, was sie wollte, war improvisieren und ihre eigene Musik schreiben.

Bushra El-Turk studierte fünf Jahre lang Komposition an der Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Nach Abschluss ihres Studiums bewarb sie sich bei verschiedenen Kompositionswettbewerben und wurde mit ihrem Streichquartett Eating Clouds Finalist beim Aberdeen Music Prize in Zusammenarbeit mit dem BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Life

Bushra El-Turk was born and raised in London to Lebanese parents who fled the civil war. Her parents encouraged her to learn a musical instrument at school. All she wanted to do was improvise and write her own music.

Bushra El-Turk studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for five years. After graduating, she applied to various composition competitions and became a finalist in the Aberdeen Music Prize with her string quartet Eating Clouds in collaboration with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
